Golden Globe Awards 2021

This year, Golden Globes adopted an entirely new format. The red carpet has now migrated to Instagram, the interviews to zoom, but the glamour and opulence persevered. Here’s GAHSP’s lineup of the best-dressed attendees at the 78th Golden Globes.

Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series for The Great and channelled Catherine The Great’s regality into her virtual red carpet look. The star debuted a silky sky blue @gucci gown with stunning bejewelled straps and a train for the gods. The dress was paired with a @leightonjewels parure, coming together as a classically glamorous ensemble with subtle baroque undertones – perfectly aligned with Fanning’s portrayal of the Russian empress.

Cynthia Erivo

Summoning the spirits of Hollywood’s past while looking into its future with conviction, singer and actress Cynthia Erivo rewrote the rulebook of glamour for 78th Golden Globes in the neon green @valentino gown. Dramatic proportions, sharp angles and mesh, mesh, mesh – turned heads now even more so than they did at Valentino’s SS21 Couture show. The dress was paired with metallic platform heels in a perfect expression of what the future of fashion must look like.

Rosamund Pike

The winner of the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture — comedy or musical, Rosamund Pike gave her award speech surrounded by a cloud of ruffles of a @mollygoddardgown. The designer made a mark with her 70s-inspired youthful aesthetics conveyed through tulle, colour and tartan, and @mspike embodied that sentiment in a manner forever nonchalant and refreshing.

Jane Fonda

For the 2021 Golden Globes, @janefonda , the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient and climate activist, wore a suit straight from her closet, staying true to her efforts to inspire people taking action against climate change. The off-white suit with a silky cream trim was paired with a stunning @pomelatto parure and a pair of pointed @sarahflint_nyc pumps. Months ago, Fonda vowed to stop buying new clothes altogether, setting an example for the Hollywood starlets this time around on the red carpet.

Celeste Waite

For the 78th Golden Globes, British Singer, Celeste Waite, wore a stunning Gucci outfit that embraces colour and texture to the fullest. The velvet bustier was flowing into a striped skirt with sequin-bestrewed skirt. The final touch that left this author speechless, were the salad green satin gloves – Alessandro Michele’s signature.

Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson was nominated for best actress in a drama series for Ratched. Paulson caused a true social media frenzy after posting a picture of her posing in accustomed Prada cast. Yes, you heard us correctly, apparently, “When you’re Lady Paulson, you get a custom Prada cast to go with your custom Prada dress”. The gown was a sweet homage to the glamour of the past. The crystal embellishments and a sculpted silhouette with cinched waist and an off-shoulder neckline harmonised with the custom cast in a fantastic symphony.

Kiersey Clemons

Kiersey Clemons walked down the virtual red carpet in a velvet Prabal Gurung gown with side cutouts encrusted with crystals – a fresh take on Femme Fatale. Much like any classically vampy piece, the dress featured a bold side slit and, with the ensemble of Bvlgari diamonds, the dress presented a vision of classic Hollywood through the modern lens.

Regina King

Regina King made history as one of the three black female directors nominated for 78th Golden Globes Award. @iamreginaking blinded the public quite literally in the custom @louisvuitton gown with sequin and crystals. The dress featured an off shoulder element that gave it a deconstructed feel.

Anya Taylor Joy

At this year’s Golden Globes, Anya Taylor Joy was the talk of the town. The actress was awarded best actress for her portrayal of Beth Harmon in Queen’s Gambit. Joy walked the virtual red carpet head-to-toe in custom Dior. The emerald slip dress underneath a matching coat painted a vision ever so elegant and regal, with the Tiffany jewels highlighted the status of the one who might well soon be the queen of Hollywood.

Laverne Cox

When talking about Hollywood royalty and such, one simply cannot ignore Laverne Cox. 'Promising Young Woman' star appeared at the 78th Golden Globes in a stunning Thai Nguyen gown with a plunging V neck and cascading sleeves, conjuring the vision of Morgan le Fay. While Cox’s gown certainly conjured medieval influences, her hair sported a style more modern – namely, the one beloved by the nobles of the regency period and, of course, @bridgertonnetflix .

Amanda Seyfried

This year, Amanda Seyfried was nominated for her portrayal of Marion Davies, the joyful wife of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst in a black-and-white film Mank. To the awards, the star wore a peachy pink Oscar de la Renta gown with a floral trim around the shoulders (apparently, the dress disappeared before the awards and did not turn up until the very last minute).

Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish’s appearance at the Golden Globes was nothing short of a furore. The star sported a sleek blonde buzz cut – an aesthetic statement with a deeper meaning (Haddish recently opened up about feeling free after shaving her head on @nicolebyer ‘s Why Won’t You Date Me podcast). The actress wore @albertaferetti column gown bestrewed with embellishments that, in more ways than one, resembled a glamorous take on warrior chainmail.
